Baby Sienna is here! {Philadelphia Baby Photography}

We finally meet!  After doing Amy & Rick’s maternity session a month or so ago, I anxiously awaited a call about Baby Sienna’s arrival.  Unfortunately for Amy, her due date came and went.   What can we say?  Special packages take time and this one…..was definitely worth the wait!

Amy was given the hat by a family member and I just happened to bring this purple swaddling blanket.  Kismet!

What do you do when you put a naked newborn baby on a very nice white chair that’s covered with the blanket made for Amy when she was a baby?  PRAY!  I think I heard her say “Ha! Ha!” at one point.

We had to get the first baby into the family photo too of course!

This may be my favorite photo of the whole day! The first portrait of Daddy & Sienna!

As you may have read earlier on the blog, this is one of the last sessions I’m doing for a while since I’m pregnant with twins.  Don’t worry, I’ll be back full force in 2012!  In the meantime, I hope you’ll follow my facebook page to keep up on the latest photo sessions as well as the progress on my percolating babies!   Follow me on Facebook!

Henna Belly Tattoos – Celebrate Your Pregnancy

henna maternity photography

There are so many fun ways to celebrate your pregnancy like a professional maternity photo session, getting a belly cast made or taking your own belly photos each week.  Having a henna tattoo done is another  way to remember such a special time.  I’ve always been fascinated by henna tattoos so I set up a model session with a local artist to see what it’s all about.  My pregnant friend, Sara, volunteered to be our model for the day.

I invited  Jennifer Montgomery from CrazyFaces Face Painting to show us  the process.

First, Jennifer uses eucalyptus oil on the skin before applying the henna to make it last longer.   The henna  she uses is natural brown henna and contains no PPD.

Next, you choose your design.  You can even incorporate your baby’s name or nursery theme into the design.

Jennifer applied the henna to Sara’s belly and hands.  This took about 45 minutes.

Then, the henna has to dry.  The longer the henna is left on, the darker the stain will be on the skin.

TIP:  The henna does take a while to dry (over an hour) so be sure to allow extra time for that.  We used a fan to help the henna dry a little faster.  It also seemed to get darker the longer it was exposed to air.

Once the henna is dried you just flake it off and it turns out like this:

IDEAS FOR YOUR HENNA BELLY TATTOO:

Henna tattoos can last a week or more.  So, it might be fun to get this done right before your baby shower or to get your girlfriends’ together for a “henna party”.   Of course you could always do this the day before your maternity session so you can incorporate your henna belly into the photos.  The henna images could also be used on the invitation for your baby shower or you could have a large photo displayed at the baby shower.

Here are some of the ways we had fun with Sara’s henna’d belly:

Sara was not shy about showing her belly in public, so we headed to a nearby park.

Thanks so much to Sara, our model, who is expecting her little man any day now.

And special thanks to Jennifer Montgomery from CrazyFaces Face Painting.  She not only creates henna tattoos but she also does amazing belly painting for pregnancy, kids’ face painting and body airbrushing as well.  Feel free to contact her to schedule your henna session or party at www.jennifermontgomery.net or 610-764-0853.

Torrie & Phil’s Old City Philly Engagement Session

Old City is such a cool part of the city.  I love the cobblestone walkways as much as I love the small hidden gardens. Cute couple, fun locations, perfect weather…oh my!  The amount of times I said “AWESOME” during this photo shoot?  Too high to count!

Torrie and Phil had such a fun energy with each other.  You could really tell how much they make each other laugh.  It’s contagious whenever you’re around them.

My hubby came with me on this photo shoot since it’s a little tough for me carrying camera bags and two babies right now.  When we parked, we parked right across from these cool doors.  I KNEW we were going back there at the end of the session.

So then, just when I was wrapping up the session I spotted this blue wall down the street.  I just love how the colors in Phil and Torrie’s outfits pop against this wall!
